Adult education programs allow adults to enhance their basic skills to prepare for:

  • College
  • Job Training Courses

Many of these classes can be taken at community colleges. They can include:

  • Adult Basic Education (ABE)
  • Adult Secondary Education (ASE)
  • High School Credit (HSCR)
  • GED Preparation

Adults may have several reasons for taking these classes such as:

  • Improving their skills. Employers need workers with academic skills, technical skills, and soft skills.  Adult education provides the foundation to set up students to excel in training. This can make them a great job candidate.
  • Getting into training programs. These are not limited to classrooms or online learning. There are many opportunities to get hands on learning. These include:
    • Internships
    • Apprenticeships
    • On-the-job training
  • Meeting educational goals. Many training programs offer a credential upon successful completion. Credentials give you the competitive edge in the job market. Again, adult education is a step in the right direction. It leads to earning credentials and meeting your school and job related goals.
  • Earning more money. It is helpful to be a competitive job candidate. You can do this by using your credentials, experience, and character. These show that you have the right skills for the job. This will open more doors for you in the workforce. It will also provide more opportunities to increase your salary.
