In a typical work setting, heavy truck drivers:

Interpersonal Relationships

  • Communicate with others by phone and in person on a daily basis. They also communicate by e-mail, but far less frequently.
  • Are very responsible for the health and safety of others.
  • Occasionally deal with unpleasant or angry people.

Physical Work Conditions

  • Work inside an enclosed vehicle while driving and outdoors while loading and unloading.
  • Work in close proximity to others while loading and unloading.
  • Are often exposed to sounds and noise levels that are distracting.
  • Usually work in extremely bright or inadequate lighting conditions.
