Interviewers - Working Conditions

In a typical work setting, interviewing clerks:

Interpersonal Relationships

  • Have a high level of social contact. They communicate constantly with others in person, by telephone, e-mail, and written letters and memos.
  • Often deal with conflict situations in which people are unpleasant or angry.
  • Are moderately responsible for the health and safety of others.
  • Almost always work as part of a group or team and are highly responsible for the work outcomes of others.

Physical Work Conditions

  • Almost always work indoors.
  • Work near others. They often share the same office space with other clerks.
  • Usually work in a noisy environment, especially if in a call center.

Work Performance

  • Must be very exact in performing the job so that information is accurate.
  • Make decisions that affect others on a daily basis. Often make decisions without consulting a supervisor.
  • Work in a competitive environment where daily deadlines must be met.
  • Set most of their daily tasks and goals for the day without talking to a supervisor.

  • Repeat the same activities, such as completing a form.

Hours/Travel

  • Generally work a set schedule.
  • May work part time or full time. Most work 40 hours a week.
  • May work evenings or weekends.
  • May travel to shopping malls or go door to door to conduct surveys.
