In a typical work setting, shoe and leather workers:

Interpersonal Relationships

  • Communicate with others by phone and in person daily. They occasionally write e-mails.
  • Are moderately responsible for the health and safety of others.
  • Sometimes work as part of a group.

Physical Work Conditions

  • Always work indoors.
  • Are often exposed to sound and noise levels that are distracting.
  • May share a work space with others.
  • Are frequently exposed to contaminants.

Work Performance

  • Must be exact and accurate in doing their work, especially when making orthopedic shoes.

  • May work part time or full time. Most work 40 hours a week.
  • Generally work a set schedule each week.
  • May work overtime to meet deadlines.
