Licensing is not necessary for medical assistants. Some states do require that medical assistants take tests to demonstrate their ability to do certain medical tasks. Also, many employers value medical assisting certification. It shows them that you have the skills and knowledge to be a medical assistant. The American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) offers a certification exam.
