Some programs encourage you to spend a semester in Israel. The experience will improve your command of Hebrew. It may give you access to certain unique learning resources. It also deepens your commitment to the Jewish people.

Although the program may not require it, you probably should devote some time to activities in the local Jewish community. You may tutor bar/bat mitzvah students. You may be a classroom aide in a Jewish school. You may be a counselor at a Jewish summer camp. Or you may volunteer at a Jewish social agency.
