Program Description

This course is designed for those interested in becoming phlebotomists, nurses, doctors, medical staff and anyone interested in the healthcare profession. Students will learn proper technique for venous and capillary blood specimen collection. They will also focus on venipuncture techniques, equipment and difficult draws. Phlebotomists are skilled healthcare professionals who have been trained to collect, transport, handle and process blood and other specimens for laboratory analysis using venipuncture and micro collection techniques. In addition, phlebotomists must be able to identify and select equipment, supplies and additives used in blood collection and understand factors that affect specimen collection procedures and test results.

Participants must meet WIOA eligibility criteria, fill out a Triton College Application and take the Triton College Placement Test. Students must have a high school diploma or GED for this program. The costs for the medical exams, background check and certification exam is the responsibility of the participant or the service provider providing the student's ITA and not Triton College. The cost of tuition, books and fees are subject to change. The maximum tuition and fees amount approved for this occupation is $3,000.
