Program Description
The baking and pastry certificate will provide students with comprehensive hands-on experience in the fundamentals of baking and pastry arts. Students will obtain necessary skills to produce quality bakery products from scratch. Many students become Bakery Managers, own their own shops or become supervisors for restaurants and hotels. Upon completion of the program, students are employable as entry-level bakery workers and assistant pastry chefs in a variety of commercial food service establishments including retail baking, in-store bakeries, and creating bakery and pastry items for restaurants and hotels. Advancement to positions of baker, bakery management and / or pastry chef may be achieved with additional work experience. The program trains students to be gainfully employed in the fast-growing, targeted industry of hospitality. Triton College operates its own bakery for hands-on experience.

Each student must also meet Triton College requirements such as filling out a Triton application,taking the Triton placement test and providing high school transcripts. Students are subject to a background check.Cost of books,fees and required materials may change. Fees are based on the number of credit hours a student registers for each semester and the amount listed is an estimate. This fee is the reponsibility of the participant or the service provider that is sponsoring them to attend. The maximum tuition and fees amount approved for this occupation is $3,000.
